All of my hiking adventures have begun on a trail, but this one started on a fisherman’s boat on the beautiful shores of a quaint village in Muscat, Oman.
My guide Aya and I made our way down the winding roads of Qantab, and before I knew it, feet sinking into the waves, we were stepping onto a fisherman’s boat sailing away on the rolling waves of the Arabian sea.
As we glided across the sea, the village faded behind and the sun shined its rays across the beautiful landscape. The wooshing sound of the boat against the water, and the sound of our laughter filled the air with so much familiarity – this was going to be an experience to remember.
We hopped off the wobbling boat to the shores of Qantab, and made our way up the rocky mountain pathways.
Every footstep on the rocky trails and every sweat led to the most beautiful views below where the Arabian shorelines basked inbetween the dramatic cliffs.
These are the moments you stop and take it all in.
The higher we climbed, the more the mountain gave way to gorgeous landscape of dramatic cliffs and sparkling torquoise water below.
By the time we reached the flag at the summit with sweat profusely running down my face, the bright golden sun was awaiting before it made its golden descent. I gasped at the beauty that surrounded me. “Ah! Oman – thank you!”
I signed the summit book and Aya and I took front row seats on the mountain to rest, and munch on some snacks Aya graciously shared.
As we chatted happily, watching the glow of the twinkling lights in the village from a far distance, golden rays of the sun filled the skies and settled down as if to tell us a story. At that moment, I held in my heart, a silent gratitude for the magnificent views, every footstep on the rocky mountain, every sweat, unexpected friendship, and Oman’s incredible beauty.
The sun started sinking into the gorgeous Arabian blue, and with it, it brought out Oman’s pure beauty.
We stayed for a while to watch the story unfold, then started our descent off the mountain with headlights on. As the sea darkened from afar, one rocky footstep at a time, we made our way back to the trail head. The peaceful wind of the Arabian sea met us, as we scrambled through water to get to the fisherman’s boat.
The ride back on the open seas was nothing short of a breezy ride, with the loud sound of the waves through the night – it was an exceptional feeling.
“I still feel the wind on my back.”
Our adventure did not end there. We hopped off the fisherman boat, shoes in hand, and with the warm sand beneath our feet, we walked along the shores into the quiet evening night of Qantab village.
As we made our way through the narrow streets, aroma of dinner drifted through the quiet night – Aaah! A quick wash of our feet and a stop at a local coffee shop to grab Pakura to eat, made the night a beautiful one.
“It was the simplicity of it all that filled my heart with a smile!”
Later that night, as I lay down to sleep, it all came rushing back with gratitude.
As I settled down to sleep, a smile flew over me, “Oman, you are absolutely beautiful”.
I hope you always choose open roads to a new adventure.
Aya made this climb a phenomenal experience. From the time she picked me up from my hotel, I knew I was in for an adventure. Aya’s vibrant personality and interest in my visit to Oman was heartwarming. We laughed and we talked about adventures throughout. She really put my mind at ease.
Thank youAya, for an experience of a lifetime – the snacks, the laughs, and making sure I was okay every step of the way on our climb to the summit.
The fisherman boat ride
It was exciting to waddle through the water with shoes in hand, climb onto the boat and have an exhilirating short ride across the open Arabic sea to the start of our hike.
The Views
Don’t miss this hike if you are in Muscat. You will stop dead in your tracks with the amazing views. Take your time and enjoy every sweat and beautiful view.
The sunset
There are some moments that never fade, and this is one of them. It felt so good sitting high up over Qantab village watching the majestic sun set slowly, and taking it all in.

Thanks for sharing your amazing experience. Nature is really beautiful when we leave all behind and become one with it. We appreciate you, mother nature – God’s beautiful handiwork!
The way you described sailing across the Arabian Sea and hiking up the Qantab Trail felt so vivid—as if I were right there with you, feeling the sun, hearing the waves, and sharing that moment of gratitude. Your reflections on simplicity, friendship, and gratitude at the end are exactly what make slow, thoughtful travel so special.
This means a lot Pam. There is something so beautiful about nature that draws you in, keeps you, and stays with you forever, and definitely makes slow travel thoughtful and very special. – something I am grateful for everyday.
